The thermal characteristics of three typical medical wastes materials (infusion bag, toilet paper and injectors) were experimentally investigated by using a TG-DTA apparatus. Analysis was performed at a heating rate of 20 °C·min-1 and a N2 flow rate of 20 mL·min-1. The experimental results indicated that the pyrolysis of all of the subject materials was endothermic. Furthermore, the shape of DTA (differential thermal analysis) curves was complex and nonsymmetrical. Deviations existed in the baseline and the temperature of the maximum mass loss rate was lower than the instantaneous thermal equilibrium. The kinetic values of three samples were obtained. Using the Coats-Redfern reaction model, the activation energy of the infusion bag, toilet paper, injector pyrolysis was 126.61 kJ/mol, 94.24 kJ/mol, and 124.28 kJ/mol respectively and their pre-exponential factors were 8.14E+8 l/min, 1.67E+7 l/min, 2.38E+8 l/min, respectively. Moreover, the effect of mixing ratios of toilet paper and injector on the pyrolysis characteristics had also been investigated experimentally. The results indicated that the mixing ratios had obvious effects on the physical reaction process, thermal weight loss rate, initial and final pyrolysis temperatures, the reaction temperature interval ΔT and the peak temperature. |
