Indoor pollutions could become serious threat for the occupant’s health with insufficient ventilation. The present study is a nested case-control investigation involving 410 children. As part of the inspection, the concentration of carbon dioxide in homes was continuously measured over 24 hours. The air change rates during nights when the children were sleeping were calculated by using CO2 produced by occupants as the tracer gas. The questionnaires were used to survey health outcomes of children. Adjusted odds ratio (AORs) of a low ventilation rate (below the median value of 1.34 L/s/person) for case was 4.19 (95% Confident Interval (CI): 1.07- 22.60). This study suggests that at low air change rate may lead to a higher prevalence rate of asthma and allergy among children. |
