The antitumor effects of pigments in green garlic were studied on H22 tumor bearing mice. Results showed that the antioxidant enzyme activities SOD, CAT, GSH-Px were notably upregulated in liver. Furthermore, the expressions of VEGF, IL-2 and TNF-α were improved. Pigments in green garlic could inhibit tumor growth. The contents of MDA, ALT and AST were decreased significantly. Pathological results showed that, the cells of the tumors exhibited sparse pink cytoplasm, densely stained round or oval vesicular nuclei of the treatment group.Image J software was used to quantify the areas of H&E staining of the nuclei. The areas of the nuclei staining were decreased in the combination groups. The pigments in green garlic might be a potential therapy to treat hepatocellular carcinoma. |
