For actual gas sensor operation, high sensitivity, good selectivity as well as the ability of working in a continuous mode at room temperature is highly expected. To achieve the key requirements, further improvement in present sensing characteristics of 1D oxide nanostructures is needed. Elemental doping, catalyst functionalization, and heterostructure formation are proved to be effective to enhance the sensing ability. Among them, the formation of 1D core-shell heteronanostructures are of articular interest since the sensing properties can be modulated and enhanced remarkably by the heterojunction barrier formed at core-shell interfaces and possible synergetic effect between component oxides. |
