The first catalytic enantioselective synthetic strategy was allowed for the first total synthesis of hedyosumins A, B, and C in 13 steps. Salient transformations include an organocatalytic [4 + 3] cycloaddition reaction, an intramolecular aldol condensation reaction, an intramolecular carboxymercuration/demercuration-enabled lactonization, and a CBS-catalyzed ee-boosting reduction.
