Chrysanthemum is an important industrial crop for food and medicine in China. This study was conducted to compare the physicochemical characteristics and immunostimulatory activity of chrysanthemums’ polysaccharides (JPs) from five geographic locations. Significant differences were found in the molecular weight, monosaccharide composition, types and morphological properties. Polysaccharides of Gongju (GJP) had the lowest molecular weight of 60.079, 8.515, 2.746, 0.382 kDa. SEM showed that GJP and QJP have a looser and uniform surface structure, benefiting to develop instant products. The results of in vitro immunomodulatory assay revealed that JPs promoted proliferation of RAW 264.7 cells without cytotoxicity and the phagocytosis, as well as enhanced the secretion of the cytokine of TNF-α, IFN-γ and NO. Immune-enhancing activity mainly correlated with their monosaccharide composition and all varieties perform different depend on climatic conditions. The results proposed that BJP and HBJP more suitable be developed as new functional foods for enhancing immunity, and provided a basis for optimizing cultivation strategies of chrysanthemum. |
