Novel mixed matrix composite membranes were prepared by coating the polyvinylamine (PVAm) -carbon nanotubes or modified carbon nanotubes mixed solutions on polysulfone (PS) ultrafiltration membranes for CO2 separation. The modified carbon nanotubes were prepared by treating the carbon nanotubes with chemical modification. Elemental analysis confirmed that chemical modification on carbon nanotubes surface had taken place. Compared with carbon nanotubes mixed matrix composite membrane, the modified carbon nanotubes mixed matrix composite membrane increased CO2 permeance, but the CO2 permeance was still low. It was because that the modified carbon nanotubes only contained a few of carriers which could facilitate CO2 transport, and CO2 maybe didn’t transport in the modified carbon nanotubes. With the increase of the modified carbon nanotubes content, the CO2 permeance of the mixed matrix composite membranes varied. In the future study, it is crucial to improve the carrier content of the modified carbon nanotubes and to make sure that the modified carbon nanotubes can disperse homogeneously in the mixed matrix composite membranes. |
