In vitro study, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging assay was widely used to determine the antioxidant activity of various samples. DPPH is a stable free-radical compound that shows maximum absorption at 517 nm in methanol. When DPPH encounters a proton-donating substance, the radical would be scavenged and the absorbance at 517 nm is reduced. Based on this principle, the antioxidant activity of a substance can be expressed as its ability in scavenging the DPPH free radical. According to the results of the DPPH free radical scavenging assay, significant antioxidant activity of the ethyl acetate fraction of Aruncus dioicus var. Kamtschaticus roots extract was confirmed. In addition, the gene assay showed that the distilled water fraction of Aruncus dioicus var. Kamtschaticus can protect DNA from damage by scavenging hydroxyl radicals. |
