JinQi-JiangTang tablet (JQ) is composed of three herbals including Coptis chinensis, Astragalus membranaceus and Lonicera japonica. The present study was undertaken to investigate the antihypertensive, antidiabetic and cardiovascular protective effects of JQ on rats with type 2 diabetes mellitus and renal hypertension. Two-kidney one-clip combined with HFD feeding and STZ-injection induced hypertensive- diabetic rats were received different levels of JQ by intragastric administration for six weeks. During the treatment period, JQ showed a good therapeutic effects on the hypertensive-diabetic rat by significantly decreasing the level of SBP, FBG, Ang-Ⅱand ET-1, improving the insulin sensitivity and oral glucose tolerance, ameliorating blood lipids and the parameters of oxidative stress. In addition, JQ could prevent thoracic aorta endothelium and cardiac muscle histopathological changes. Based on these results, JQ could be a candidate to ameliorate systolic blood pressure and improve glucose metabolism in situations that type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension occur concurrently. |
