Magnolia officinalis is very important among Magnolia species. The Chinese name of
this herb is Houpu (HP) which has been widely used in gastrointestinal disease. The protective effect of HP to relieve diarrhea induced by CPT-11 administration was further discussed. The oxidative stress, inflammation reaction and intestinal barrier proteins expression level were examined. The results showed that the amplification of inflammatory cytokines induced by induced by CPT-11, including NF-κB, IL-6, TNF, COX-2 and iNOS, was significantly suppressed after HP administration. The oxidative stress was prevented by improving SOD activity and decreasing MDA level. Besides, HP enhanced the intestinal barrier function through promoting the tight junction proteins expression. These results indicated that the protective effect on intestine may be mediated through the regulation on anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory ability, as well as participation in protecting the intestinal barrier. |
