The main objective of this work was to characterize model DOM compounds antioxidant properties as a wide range of Eh, solution pH, and DOM moieties insight into the reactivity of the electron donating moieties during chlorination. To this end, we quantified the EDC of 10 DOM model compounds samples over wide Eh and pH ranges. The measured EDC values were also assessed as a potential surrogate parameter for Cl2 demand and DBPs formation potentials. The compounds include resorcinol, hydroquinone, tannic acid, vanillin, L-cysteine, L-tyrosine, L-tryptophan, reduced glutathione (GSH) , phenylalanine and phenol which are known important DBP precursors. We also evaluated the properties of chlorine on DOM model compounds degradation, including representative EDC value, DBPs formation, TOC and AOC. |
