The air-dried whole plant of Potentilla discolor were refluxed with 95% EtOH twice and then 60% EtOH twice. The extracts were combined and concentrated to yield a residue. The residue was then suspended in distilled water and partitioned with petroleum ether, CH2Cl2, EtOAc, and n-BuOH, successively. 37 compounds including triterpenoids, flavonoids, tannins and cyclolignans were isolated from the ethanol extract of the whole plant of Potentilla discolor by solvent extraction, normal phase silica gel, polyamide, Sephadex LH-20, D101 macroporous resin and ODS column chromatography, along with recrystallization. Our chemical study on Potentilla discolor led to the identification of 31 compounds which were identified by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, IR, UV, DEPT, HMBC, HSQC, HR-ESI-MS, including PDC-4 (naringenin), PDC-5 (2-oxo-pomolic acid), PDC-6 (oleanolic acid), PDC-7 (ursolic acid), PDC-8 (2α,3α,19α-trihydroxy-12-ursen-28-oic acid), PDC-10 (2α,3β-dihydroxyolean-12-en-28-oic acid), PDC-11 (kaempferol), PDC-14 (fupenzic acid). PDE-1 (3,3′-di-O-methylellagic acid), PDE-2 (3-O-methylellagic acid-4′-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside), PDE-3 (3, 3’,4-tri-O-methylellagic acid 4’-O-β-D-xylopyranoside), PDE-4 (3, 3’ -di-O-methylellagic acid 4’-O-β-D-xylopyranoside), PDE-5 (gallic acid), PDE-6 (3,3’,4-tri-O-methylellagic acid 4’-O-β-D-glucopyranoside), PDE-7 (3,3'-di-O-methylellagic acid 4'-O-β-D-glucopyranoside), PDE-8 (quercetin), PDE-9 (kaempferol-3-O-β-D-glucuronide-6’’-methyl ester), PDE-10 (trans-tiliroside), PDE-11 (kaempferol-3-O-β-D-glucuronide), PDE-12 (ethyl gallate), PDE-13 (3,3',4,4'-Tetrahydroxybiphenyl), PDE-14 (quercetin-3-O-β-D-glucuronide-6’’-methyl ester), PDE-15 (cis-tiliroside), PDE-16 (naringenin 5-O-β-glucoside), PDE-17 (kaempferol-3-O-β-D-glucoside), PDE-18 (isosalipurposide), PDE-19 (isoquercitrin), PDE-20 (schizandriside), PDE-21 (tiliamuroside B), PDE-22 ((-)-(8S,7'R,8'S)-isolariciresinol-9'-O-α-L-rhamnoside), PDE-23 ((-)-isolariciresinol-9'-O-β-D-xylopyranoside). |
